Ring 24 can is able to offer businesses a range of ways of connecting to the outside world for both voice and data. We have been able to introduce our customers to real alternatives to the traditional ISDN and analogue lines, in the form of trunks using SIP technology.
SIP trunks utilise the power of the internet to carry voice traffic over the public network as far afield as global destinations. Businesses that have a PBX telephone system which has the power to use Voice over Internet Protocol can allow connectivity over an internet connection to an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP), to allow voice calls onto the public telephone network. The process of connecting a voice session over the internet in this way is referred to as a SIP Trunk. The word trunk has evolved in this context simply to emulate the original concept of wired telephony so that it is easily understood by people.
The use of this technology can avoid costly installation and rental charges of traditional ISDN connections and the service can be configured to be flexible to respond to the changing needs of a business. For example the flexible pointing of a range of numbers to various locations of the business’s network can make moving, changing and expansion of a business not only easy to manage, but also cost effective. SIP trunks can be easily manipulated and routed to take account of a business’ requirement for redundancy and failover thus ensuring that connectivity with the outside world is seem-less. The SIP technologies allow similar benefits to an organisation for external communication that they will already find from using VoIP for their internal voice communication, such as presence applications, application sharing, and instant messaging.
